Resin and Creating Moulds

Hi,

I hope this is in the correct place...

I would like to make some moulds of some scratchbuilt n gauge items, to produce resin models for around the layout. I was looking for some information/links to suitable silicone for the moulds and resin which is easy to use and will not loose too much detail from the models.
I would be greatfull if anyone had any tips or could recommend suitable products.

The last time I did anything moulding wise I used Bentley Chemicals....

Bear in mind that it can get a bit expensive to use and the chemicals have a limited shelf life.

One of our members upnick posted a while back about this stuff that is used to make moulds.
I don't know if this would be any good to make moulds of what you are trying to duplicate ?

If they are small and weight isn't an issue you will probably get sharper and better castings using pewter or white metal casting methods. The heavy material and weight mean you don't get air bubbles and unfilled or badly filled spots.

You can also get people like P&D Marsh to do castings for you from your own masters.

Thanks for all the quick responses, the items I'm looking to duplicate are scratch built modern caravans and tents for a camping scene. So I thought resin would be easier to use.

I've used Biresin G26 in the past for casting. Its a 1:1 ratio mix, so fairly idiot proof and sets fast.

I got mine from http://www.resins-online.com/

I bought the 1kg size but they also do it in 5kg size which Tiranti's don't and it was actually cheaper even with the p&p being higher.

Just remember the resin and hardener are sold separately!

I just need to find the best way to make accurate moulds!
