I own a couple of 52's, three if you count the one that's buried somewhere in @Ozymandias queue, and they're all Dapol.

What's people's opinion on the Farish 52's?

Are they better, worse, or just different, and how easy are they to DCC for the ones that say "compatible, but no socket"?

Asking for a friend.

Far worse. I wouldn't even bother.

The Farish 52 dates from the Poole era, with a typical Farish diesel chassis of the time. The split chassis Bachmann put into them in the early China days was a lot better, with flywheels, but as you say no DCC. I think these are easier to DCC than the Poole ones, which need Digihats.

The Farish 52 looks ok but has no lights, no cab, no separate handrails, and a split front cowling below the buffer line (same as their 158 DMU).
It was OK in its day, but the Dapol one is better.

Just the progression of time.

I would never try to throw good money after bad, and I would sell the Farish Western on EBay to fund a decent Dapol one, but that takes away a lot of the fun :)
So each to their own.

I'm not an expert on these things however I do own two Dapol 52s just 'cos I like the look of them. To my mind the Farish 52 just doesn't look as nice as the Dapol especially the Farish bogies with the shiny wheels (and are they too small?).  No experience of them in terms of quality of mechanism or any split gear tendencies etc.

I have 2 purchased before Dapol brought theirs out and think they're not as bad as many make out. There again, I'm in the camp of "if it looks like a class 52, it is a class 52". They are certainly good runners.
Some while ago I tried to sell them on the N'Porium but no one was interested.

Righto, thanks chaps, that's confirmed my suspicions looking at pictures.

I'll let my 'friend' know.

@Bob G how's the sciatica this morning?

@Bob G how's the sciatica this morning?

I had to crawl from the bed to the bathroom this morning, and not because I was drunk either!
Then I discovered that the dose was 1-2 pills twice a day - I had misread the dose as 1 twice a day - and now I'm as happy as a sandboy.
I need to get mobile again as I want a fish and chip lunch with my friend Stella in the pub on Friday, and wife wont book the meal until I show signs of improvement :)

Cant show any enthusiasm for *work* at the moment, so have been looking at the Sonic 56xx pictures on Rails site instead;

Found an old pic of the maroon one but forgot to reduce it in pic size :-[
Also have a green version.

Improvement in 'what'?

Is that a general thing or just your current ailment?

Ha Ha Ha

Improvement in my current (dis)ability to mow the grass and stack the dishwasher.
These are the things I do to save me having to iron my shirts.

Knowing your propensity for dishwasher injuries, if you want my advice, learn how to iron!

Its a good job we don't have a knife tray, I've heard of many coming to their end accidentally falling on the knives in a dishwasher.
And fortunately I'm short enough to be able to walk under the cupboard door above the oven, even if it is open :)

There are some benefits in being short.
