Afternoon all,

I'd been wondering for a while whether there were any wireless controllers for DC layouts after realising that I don't like looking at my layout from the fiddleyard perspective all the time  I want to be able to walk round it and 'play trains' from the front too! I had a look the other day and saw that Gaugemaster do a range called Infinity which looks like it will do the job. I tried to look for other examples but the only other I could find was by Blue Railways but their offering can't handle common return, so no good to me. Does anyone here have a Gaugemaster Infinity Duo or any other DC wireless control system they can extol the virtues of?

Well there was the cheap and cheerful radio control Hornby sold with their Thomas sets 20 years ago :)  My son had them when he was a youngster.    I tried our pair of them once on my N gauge and they actually worked quite well though not as fine control as my usual KPC controllers.

I'm sure there are other better systems out there, when you consider the neat little RC transmitters and receivers the garden railway battery power guys use :)

I use a double controller from Blue Railways on my sea wall layout.

It all works beautifully.
There are a few others on the forum who also use this system so worth investigating.

Cheers

I'm sure I'll get used to cream first soon.

I use the Blue Railwasy system and it works well for me. Re the "Common Return" problem, this is what their website faq says about it:

"Can I use "Common Return" with the Receivers/Controllers?

"Common Return" requires an isolated and different DC supply for each Receiver/Controller so multiple Model 603's can use Common Return provided they have individual DC supplies. The two outputs from the Model 522 can not use a Common Return as the outputs are derived from one DC input. Multiple Model 522's can have one Common Return, again provided they have individual DC supplies. A good article on Common Return can be found at http://rail.felgall.com

Hope that helps.

I have the Blue Railways system on my two completed layouts, and also the one I am building at the moment, and find they are excellent.

Very easy to set up and giving great control  :D  :D  :D

All best wishes

Happy Christmas

Dare I mention that the Dave Clarke 00 gauge layout featuring signalling in a box to replicate the prototype, had wireless loco control. The layout could have several trains 'active' at the same time and each had its own 'driver' who could walk around the layout (38' x 16.5') controlling the loco and responding to the signals as would the prototype driver.
It was built from 1970s onwards so probably predates Blue Railways system - there's a video on YouTube showing the layout in operation.
