Return arrow

When I have finished reading a message and hit the return arrow I mostly end up back up the listing and have to scroll down again. It's becoming mildly annoying, does anyone else have this problem, if so what's the solution. It's only since the forum was updated.

Do you mean the "Return" key on your keyboard? If so, that behavior is a consequence of browser settings rather than a forum function...

Owing to the awful keyboard on my Dell laptop, I find it easiest to use the 'Page Up' and 'Page down' keys to scroll.

Simple answer is don't use the Return key.  Use the page up and down keys when moving through messages
